Tony Stokes
hi & welcome to my art page. I first started to paint at the age of about 3 or so i am told, my mother was a painter working in oils & water colours & she also played violin in the CBSO. This all took place in the early fiftys. Mother would paint in the morning & look after me at the same time while dad was at work. Apparently as she got on with other houshold tasks i would take it upon myself to improve her work by whatever means & when she returned , instead of scolding me she would encourage me to paint as she did all her life. I left school at 16 & enrolled at birmingham collage of arts & crafts to study grafic design. my stay at BCAC lasted a good 3 weeks , not for me i wanted to be a painter. After a couple of dead end jobs i said thats it, as i was selling a fair amount of my work i told mom & dad im of, so i spent the next 3 or so years working in London Brixham & Paris as a painter, what a life for a young man in the sixtys.I came back in about 1971 & met my future wife, or in my case my future x wife.Bye the way the brushes have been hung in the cupboard for well over 30 years but i have let them out now & then for a run over the years. I took early retirement about 5 years ago & now my time is my own, which i spend on my 3 main passions. Painting in oils & water colours, building model steam locomotives from scratch & restoring model dinkys.......I am back......tony
