Ann McCay

Ann McCay has been painting portraits from her Shrewsbury studio for the last ten years, combining an interest in surface pattern and composition with insight into the character and mood of her subjects. The choice of setting is often a vital part of the portraits, with the location chosen from the places that mean the most to the sitters. Ann studied Fine Art at Bristol Polytechnic, specializing in printmaking. On graduating Ann moved to Granada in the south of Spain, where she created posters of Spanish cities, and developed an interest in Moorish design. On returning to London and then Shrewsbury she concentrated on oil painting and charcoal drawing. Her work falls into three categories: portraits, architecture, and patterns. Ann McCay's portraits have been shown at the Royal Society of Portrait Painters and at the BP Portrait Competition in the National Portrait Gallery.
