ARTIST'S Statement

I research the landscape for information about its locality:
the names of hills, streets, fields, house names.

I also draw attention to the notion of movement across landscape - walk, fly, migration.

These texts are hand-written and scratched into the paint surface in the different languages of Britain - Welsh, Gaelic, English.

I also create some of the motifs from my imagination, this may have been influenced by living or experiencing a specific place.

The paintings are made up of many layers of oil paint, so that scratching into the surface reveals the previously used colours and textures. The surface of the painting is often sanded down and reworked.
