Raef Baldwin
In 1984 I set up a workshop to make 'Formatures' with the aid of a Crafts Council 'Setting Up' Grant award. My first commission was for a bird table, and since then the studio, named, 'Blue Giraffe Workshops' has gone from strength to strength, producing Bird tables, Weather-vanes, Sundials, Fountain, Radiators, Decorative Mirrors, Painted Awnings and Wax Illuminaire, mostly to commission. My pieces are mixed-media and made from non-ferrous metals, silver often in conjunction with stone, wood, enamels, gold, bronze, copper leafs and glass. My images have been influenced by the architecture and technology that I see around me, combined with eclectic use of romantic motif from past eras.
I utilise a full range of sculptural processes, working with wood, metal, glass and ceramics; specifically lead and copper working often with patinated decoration, metal leafing & associated decorative gilding processes, craft ceramic and glass work, painted screens and theatrical design work. Additionally supporting my work with computer image manipulation, graphical design work. I have also exhibited and undertaken commissions for sculptural work since 1983, please see following exhibition / commission list.
