Phill Evans Illustration
I am a freelance illustrator working in Shrewsbury since 2011.
I principally work digitally using traditional drawing skills and Adobe Photoshop however I am always happy to explore different ways of working and taking on different challenges. My usual modus operandi is to try to bring traditional draftsmanship to the digital technologies that are available. So as well as using mark making and line techniques I also incorporate digital, photographic textural elements in my work. In many ways this is simply collage by another name, but the addition of digital magic makes for some exciting and contemporary images.

I graduated with a BA(Hons) Illustration in 2008 and I am currently pursuing an MA in Design Practice at Glyndwr University in Wrexham.
As a student I won two significant illustration competitions. Firstly to design the Glyndwr University official Xmas cards for 2007 and then the Randolph Caldecott Student Competition in 2008. My work was also chosen for inclusion in the Association of Illustrator's annual Images 32 and in The Big Book of Contemporary Illustration in 2009.

Since graduation I have sold greetings cards designs to Clinton's Cards, designed logos for several Shropshire companies and undertaken several private commissions for illustrations of everything from busses and dogs (in American Civil War uniforms) to Jabberwockies. I have also provided digital colouration for two graphic novels of Shakespeare's plays drawn by Simon Greaves of the Oswestry based Shakespeare Comic Book Company.

This summer I have just completed 130 illustrations for a book to be called "A Beginners Guide to Women's History" from American publisher Beginners Guide Books which will be published internationally in May 2012.
