About my work
I have always worked with textiles since quite young and my mother taught me to knit and sew. Natural fibres are my first love, especially wool, and I have a few Gotland sheep from whom I use the wool for feltmaking. Design inspirations change from time to time but I have a lifelong fascination with the Iron and Bronze Ages, especially the markings on the stones, and have visited many sites around Britain, including those in the Orkney islands and the Outer Hebrides.
Increasinly, I am considering the use of recycling in my work, especially in the use of fabrics, buttons and found objects. Old haberdashery has an incredible social history to me and evoke thoughts of how they were used in a previous life! Current work has included collage and assemblages using found objects and knitted jewellery.
