I would have called myself a painter and a printmaker - in that order - but having been brought up short by a group crit session a year or so ago I've changed the order. Someone at that crit asked which of the three mediums I was talking about (drawing, painting and printing) I would choose if I could only do one. It was definitely printing for me, and I couldn't deny it.
How awkward! - I didn't have the equipment or the space. Not that I'm stopping the other two, but now I'm setting up printing facilities in Oswestry with a small etching press, along with fellow artist and sculptor Bob Knowles.
Looking back on my life I see that somehow I've been involved with printing since since I was at school.. Sometimes this involvement meant simply owning a press - though on one occasion, because I lived on the top floor of a Victorian house, that press remained in several pieces, in case it went through the floor.
My sources and inspiration remain the landscape and the inside of the human brain/mind (as the neuro-aestheticist P.Zembrzeki (spelling?) said: the artist is a neurobiologist).
