John Tolliday – Brief Biographical Profile As a Fine Art Photographer

I work in Digital and also Medium (6x7) and Large (8x10) film formats. My subjects are Portraits and Landscapes. Evolving technique and experience: In the 1980’s I was a founder member of Phoenix, a group of serious photographers who organised workshops by Melvin Cambettie Davies, Max Ferguson, Eddie Ephraumus, Charlie Waite, Barrie Thomas, Terence Donovan. 1989 I was elected Fellow of The Royal Society of Arts, at this time using 5”x4” plates in monochrome. Subsequently I attained Licentiate of the Royal Photographic Society in 1990. I studied City & Guilds Photography at Bridgwater College in Somerset in 1992 and gained a distinction in Landscape. I achieved exhibition successes with the Royal Photographic Society International in 1991, The Bristol Salon, Solihull, Essex International, Focus 90, the LIP annual exhibition on the South Bank, 2003, 2004, 2005. Frank Wine Bar, Shrewsbury 2007 and 2008 and The Gateway Art Gallery in 2009. Current and future direction: The wilderness in North America has been my project for the last few years and has strongly influenced my landscape work. Now residing in Shropshire access to the UKs national parks is much easier. I am starting Photopolymer Gravure Intaglio Printmaking as a new direction.
