Ian Collett

I take inspiration from people who are occupied with some emotion or carrying out activities that are important to them.

My aim is to express effectively various moods of the human figure, often with emphasis on face and hands and the many aspects of body language.

I generally work in oil for major commissions and exhibition pieces, but I am also keen on watercolour, pastel and graphite, when the subject is appropriate.

I place great importance on regular life drawing. I seek to improve my technique at the service of sensitive responses to my subjects.

I wish to undertake portrait commissions that are collaborations with the patron and myself, to produce a work that both records the special qualities of the person or persons and stands as a unique work of art in itself.
To express in oil paint the poetry of people.
