Fundamentally, I would define my artistic vocation within a ‘socially interactive and environmentally concerned bracket.’ I would say I am a public artist, who creates a type of ‘holistic art;’ seeking to explore, address and heal our relationship with nature, each other and ultimately with ourselves.

I feel that every one is an artist, and consider the role of the artist as healer and the creative process as a primary healing tool. I believe that all people regardless of age, sex, social class, cultural identity or artistic training have the creative potential to produce Art and the capacity to appreciate it.

Maybe it was becoming the mother of three young children, or possibly suffering the disabling disease of psoriatic arthritis that caused me to re-evaluate my role as artist? I felt I could no longer consider making art that was void of moral consciousness, Art that carried no responsibility, Art that was without spiritual context, Art that placed form above content, or ignored the state of the world in which it exists.

My art inquiry became focused around artwork that would create awareness of regional and global crises, remediate polluted sites, help to protect endangered species, Art which endeavoured to engage the general public in community issues, and protect fragile ecologies.

My fundamental concern was that ‘art’ has an agenda; it is activist and can hopefully make a difference. In order to address this concern, I would seek to connect communities and collaborate with non artist partners. Asking the question, can artists bridge the gap between science and technology to help interpret nature in a more user-friendly way?
